On November 2nd 2015, TOLR was asked to take in 2 small hairless sisters named Shirley and Sweet Cheeks. Shirley was suffering from a massive abscess on her right hip/belly. We started treatment with antibiotics immediately. Before we even touched the abscess, it smelled like death. You could clearly see the dead tissue as well as the puss on the top of the abscess. After 24 hours of antibiotics it was time to drain. The first aspiration of this abscess we got a total of 30 cc of gag inducing, infected, thick puss out! Such a trooper, Shirley never offered a bite, nip or squeak during the entire treatment. The next day the abscess, although smaller, was filling up again due to how deep the infection was. The dead tissue on top was also growing in diameter but the middle was already collapsing as the healing process had begun. After the second aspiration , which resulting in another 7 cc of puss, Shirley was well on her way to recovery. By day 10 the scab had fallen off and there was nothing but fresh, clean, healthy tissue underneath. Yesterday was day 16 and all that is left of this abscess that was literally a third of this girls total body weight is a scratch! It completely amazes me at how fast these small creatures heal, how resilient and loving they are. As of today November 19th 2015 Both Shirley and her sister Sweet Cheeks are gaining weight, social and loving. They will be meeting a potential adopter tomorrow evening! Fingers crossed it is a match!
