Rescue Rehabilitation Re-homing
Tree of Life Rescue is a privately run small animal rescue. Our focus is the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of pet rats and reptiles.
Tree of Life Rescue is trying to give all the rats a wonderful 2nd, in reality it is usually 3rd or 4th chance in life. We have had some rescues that have needed a little bit more TLC lately. Meet BiG BoY Dingus, he is one guy who has tried to find where he fits in and just cannot seem to find that special place. He came back to TOLR and is in the throws of intense male hormones which have caused him to not only become aggressive with his cage mates (killing them) but also with TOLR staff at times. We understand his situation and want to let him live out his life here and feel him getting neutured will help him calm down enough to be handled safely again. We also have solitary boy Fizban who is in the same boat. So far we have $100 donated of the 300 we need to have both these boys neutered. Consider sponsoring them or one of the other long term residents here at TOLR. Our PayPal is [email protected] Thank you for taking the time to read about these wonderful boys!
Today was a GOOD day! We traveled up to Fife,WA hoping to find furever homes for a few of our ratties. We NEVER expected to find homes for 1/3 of our available residents. We did! 10 rats are snuggled in their new homes as I type this. We met so many of our Northern supporters and made several great connections in the area.
We have also brought home 3 bearded dragons. All are in need of a lot of TLC. Peanut (pictured) is the worst off. He is severly dehydrated and malnurshed along with suffering metabolic bone disease. Look forward to many posts on their rehabilatation. Ok been super busy here at TOLR! Been slacking on the blogs, so we are going to get caught up.
Pickle TOLR welcomed Pickle the Jeweled Lacerta! He is happy and healthy but unfortunately illegal in Oregon. Due to this Pickle will be staying with us to help spread the word of how amazing reptiles are as pet and the responsibility that comes with them. Miss Marley On Thanksgiving Miss Marley, an adorable 8 week old female top ear hairless came to after escaping her cage and being found with 2 males. Unfortunately it now looks like she will be having babies in the next few days. Stay tuned for updates. Ophelia Little Ophelia has joined us at 3 weeks old after being bought from a pet store. She is so small she fit through the bars of the cage so was surrendered to TOLR. She has been placed with a foster mom and litter of 3 week olds and is doing well. Rodent and Reptile Round up Also do not forget we will be in Fife WA 12/19/15, 10 to 3pm at the Paws Ability Training Center with all of or available kids! Stop by and say hi. On November 2nd 2015, TOLR was asked to take in 2 small hairless sisters named Shirley and Sweet Cheeks. Shirley was suffering from a massive abscess on her right hip/belly. We started treatment with antibiotics immediately. Before we even touched the abscess, it smelled like death. You could clearly see the dead tissue as well as the puss on the top of the abscess. After 24 hours of antibiotics it was time to drain. The first aspiration of this abscess we got a total of 30 cc of gag inducing, infected, thick puss out! Such a trooper, Shirley never offered a bite, nip or squeak during the entire treatment. The next day the abscess, although smaller, was filling up again due to how deep the infection was. The dead tissue on top was also growing in diameter but the middle was already collapsing as the healing process had begun. After the second aspiration , which resulting in another 7 cc of puss, Shirley was well on her way to recovery. By day 10 the scab had fallen off and there was nothing but fresh, clean, healthy tissue underneath. Yesterday was day 16 and all that is left of this abscess that was literally a third of this girls total body weight is a scratch! It completely amazes me at how fast these small creatures heal, how resilient and loving they are. As of today November 19th 2015 Both Shirley and her sister Sweet Cheeks are gaining weight, social and loving. They will be meeting a potential adopter tomorrow evening! Fingers crossed it is a match!
